The Department of Environmental Science, MBB College, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), today organized a meaningful celebration of World Environment Day, aligning with the global theme “Beat Plastic Pollution.” Students, faculty members, and environmental advocates came together at the Bio-Science Block in the Old Science Building to raise awareness and spark action toward a more sustainable future.

The event opened with a symbolic gesture—guests watering a plant, representing a shared commitment to nurturing the planet. Among the distinguished guests were Principal, Teacher’s Council Secretary, NSS Program Officer and Associate NCC Officer of MBB College. Their presence reinforced a collective dedication to environmental protection.

Head of the Department of Environmental Science, Smt. Maria Deb Barma, warmly welcomed the everyone and set an inspiring tone for the day. She highlighted the urgent need to tackle plastic pollution and called on everyone to adopt more sustainable habits. Short speeches by faculty members followed, reinforcing the importance of education and community involvement in protecting the environment. Speakers encouraged reducing single-use plastics and making environmentally responsible choices in daily life.

Adding a creative touch to the event, students from the Environmental Science Department performed a short play on environmental awareness. As the program drew to a close, students and organizers were recognized with certificates for their efforts. A highlight of the event was kingfisher bird—rescued after being trapped in a classroom was gently released back into nature. The bird’s flight symbolized hope and the real-world consequences of environmental neglect, as well as the power of collective action. The day continued with plantation of saplings by teachers and students around the campus, reinforcing the college’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and biodiversity. MBB College’s observance of World Environment Day not only honored the theme of beating plastic pollution but also served as a shining example of how community-led initiatives can inspire meaningful change for the planet.
